I'm just back from Chicago with a blast of marketing energy propelling me back from the Windy City, where I attended the Kennedy-Glazer SuperConference. Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer, if you don't know, are two of America's foremost marketing superstars, and they've made a fortune online with their business coaching. When it comes to creating record-setting ROI, these guys wrote the book. Also in attendance was the big winner from the first season of "The Apprentice," Bill Rancic, who's parlayed that reality TV triumph into an amazing career. Check out his personalized greeting to yours truly below. To tell you the truth, Bill is a bit of an inspiration to me. A lot of reality TV stars have disappeared back into the oblivion from which they came – but, after "The Apprentice," Bill became a best-selling author, an in-demand motivational speaker, a regular on "The Rachael Ray Show," the head of his own production company, etc. etc. He's gotten a mind-boggling "ROI" from his initial TV breakthrough. And I think that's an important lesson. Achieving a big success should be the beginning of a new chapter, not the end of an old one. It's a moment to seize, not a moment to relax. Use success as leverage to take you to a new place in your career that maybe you've always wanted to explore. It's a time when people will be willing to take a chance on you more often than not. And speaking of taking chances, the Chicago SuperConference was all about how to "rise above the recession" – and, to me, that means putting more into your marketing, not backing off. That doesn't necessarily require investing more money. Usually, I like to talk loudly about how wonderful one of our products is, but this time, I think I'll...whisper. Didn't mean to give you eyestrain there, but the fact is the "whisper feature" on our call tracking service is a big help to a receptionist, a sales person or whoever answers your incoming sales phone calls. Because you know what people are calling about before you talk to them! No ESP involved here, just simple technology. As you might already know, when we set up a phone call tracking system for you, we assign a different phone number to place on each of your different marketing campaigns. This makes it incredibly easy to measure the ROI on your advertising, because you know exactly how many calls you're getting from each campaign - which we also keep track of for you too. (And, no, you don't have to buy an extra telephone for every phone number assigned – they all get routed to the number of your choosing!) Assigning all the different phone numbers also creates the opportunity to tell you in advance what an incoming phone call is regarding. Say you're a dentist marketing your implant treatments. When a generated lead calls the phone number on the implant advertising, just before that call is put through to the staff person on your end, a "whisper" will come over the phone saying "Implant lead." Or whatever you want the whisper to say. That way, your staff will instantly know why this person is calling and can shift into "sales" mode. They can get their game on, maybe pull out the implant info if they need to, and be instantly ready to sell your service. And if it turns out that whoever is answering the phone at that moment isn't the right person to sell the implant service, they can immediately transfer the call to the right person. Forewarned is forearmed as they say – and it's a lot easier to get a sales call off on the right foot when you know (a) it is a sales call and (b) what the specific product or service is that the person is calling about. Obviously, you and your staff have a different way of talking to a regular customer or client than you do to a potential new prospect. The "whisper" can help you to improve your marketing ROI by being prepared to make the most of the opportunity when a generated lead calls.
